Europe’s biggest open-air museum is located in Pyrohiv village not far from Kyiv. The national museum of folk architecture and way of life “Pyrohovo” covers an area of 131 hectares. Ancient culture of each Ukrainian region is depicted here in hundreds of exhibited items from household items, to traded items, architecture and interiors of the village. Central Naddnipryanshchyna, Poltava region and Sloboda Ukraine, Polesia, Podillia, the South, the Carpathians, separate ethnographic regions are presented in the museum. This village hosts Mezhyhirya, the former private residence of Viktor Yanykovych, where he lived from 2002 until 2014. From 1995, Mezhyhirya was a state government residence until it was privatized in 2007. Mezhyhirya is both a symbol and museum of corruption on a presidential scale. During the excursion you will visit residences with picturesque landscapes, garages with retro cars, zoos, and also learn about the history of this area. Mezhyhirya a unique archeological site where a spiritual center of Ukrainian Cossacks, the Saviour-Transfiguration monastery, was located until the mid 20th century century.
