The capital city, on the banks of the picturesque Dnieper river, will tell you a lot about the beginning of Ukrainian nation-building from the earliest of Kievan Rus. This is the city where witnesses of those times have survived: Saint Sophia Cathedral, the Golden Gates of Kyiv, Andriyivskyy Descent, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Next to them there are buildings and streets that witnessed today’s events of the nation: Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), Instytutska Street, the Trade Unions Building, and also buildings where the highest-level leaders work: Verkhovna Rada, Presidential Administration, National Bank of Ukraine and others.
