Not every village in Ukraine can boast of two fantastic churches with the same name. The older one is the stone defensive Saint Ilia Church (1560), with a belfry and hidden cupolas. It is a perfect example of a house type Bukovyna church. It’s “sister” Saint Ilia church (1914) is one of the most beautiful churches in our country. It looks like a castle with towers. Emperor Franz Joseph donated part of the money to building the church. As an expression of gratitude parishioners carved a magnificent throne for him and it is still kept in this majestic church.
