This former town was owned by the Ukrainian Hetman, Ivan Vyhovsky, who led a successful campaign against the Russian army under Konotop. On the place of the fortified ancient Russian settlement is the estate of the owners of the village. Not far from this estate, grows an old oak tree, which, according to local legend, Hetman originated from. Some researchers argue that Ivan Vygovsky was buried in Ruda.
