Not every city can boast of a cemetery, which is also an open-air sculpture museum and equates to a monument of landscape art. At Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv, you can see tombstones of high artistic value, the oldest of which is about 200 years old.

State History and Culture Museum and Preserve "Lychakiv Cemetery" spread over 40 hectares. 86 fields house over 300 burials, over 2 000 vaults, and half a thousand sculptures and reliefs installed on tombs. The Cemetery appeared in 1786 when the Austrian authority prohibited to bury the deceased in cemeteries located around the local churches. Lychakiv necropolis is one of the touristy attractions of Lviv and the most well-known cemetery.

Lychakiv Cemetery is the last resting place of prominent personalities of the past and present. Here you will find graves of famous Ukrainian writers, musicians, singers, scientists, and political figures. This is the place where prominent figures such as Ivan Franko and Solomiya Krushelnytska were buried.
