This is the central part of the princely Halych, the capital of the Halych-Volyn Principality, which gave the name to Halychyna and Halychians and now belongs to the National historical reserve “Old Halych”. The impressive shafts and foundations of the Dormition Church (1157) survived from princely times; Basil's Chapel (1500), Metropolitan Chambers (XVIII century) with the Museum of ancient Halych history, the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin (XVI century), the mound “Halychyna grave” (X century) and a mystical well, rumoured to contain healing water, are also worth seeing.
Not far from the centre of Halych, in the area of the ancient settlement, there is the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Prykarpattia, where you can see the dwellings and everyday life of four ethnographic groups of Ukrainians in the area of Ivano-Frankivsk region: Opillians, Pokuttiians, Hutsuls and Boykos.
