This village is well-known because Taras Shevchenko, the great Ukrainian poet, writer, painter, and public figure was born here. Since being rebuilt in 1989, you can visit the house of Taras Shevchenko’s grandfather Yakym Boyko. The natural beauty of Moryntsi is also very fascinating.
Shevchenko described it beautifully in his famous great book of poetry, ‘Kobzar’.

Taras Shevchenko spent his childhood in this small village. You can visit the literary and memorial museum which is situated on the former yard of Taras’ house. Beside the museum on the slope of the ravine, the grave of the poet’s mother Catherine has been preserved.
Sofiivka National dendrological park is the highlight of this town. Sofiivka is the most beautiful park in our country and it was recognized to be one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine. The park was created at the turn of the XVIII-XIX сentury by Stanislav Shchensnyi Pototskyi as an elaborate gift to his beautiful Greek wife, Sophia. The park is nearly 180 hectares, and more than 2000 kinds of trees and bushes from all over the world grow here.

Pyrohov’s national house museum is the Mecca of this city. Pyrohov Mykola was a prominent scientist, genial surgeon, anatomist, pedagog and public figure. The museum includes the house where Pyrohov Mykola lived, the pharmacy museum, memorial park and necropolis church where the embalmed body of the prominent scientist rests in peace. Almost seven million people from 169 countries around the world have visited Pyrohov museum. And now you are welcome to visit it,too!
You should also see the fantastical light and musical fountain situated on the river Pivdennyi Bug (Southern Bug). Its height is 60 m and its width is 140 m. The fountain is considered one of the world’s top ten fountains.
This town is situated on the confluence of the river Pivdennyi Bug and the river Buzhok. It is famous all over Ukraine due to its fantastic fortress (XVI-XIX сentury). Its picturesque towers and defensive walls can be seen from all around. The dimensions of the castle are also very impressive. It occupies four hectares, and the length of its walls range from 85 to 130 metres. The ruins of Siniavski palace and its Roman- Catholic church (1586) have been preserved inside the fortress.
The town is also a great Hasidic pilgrimage center because the founder of Hasidic Judaism, Baal Shem Tov, lived and died there.
