Verhnia Hrabivnytsia
This scenic Carpathian village hosts a great bunker. This is the most interesting and preserved structure along the once powerful defensive Arpad line. The line was built by Hungarian army in 1943-1944, for protection against the Soviet army. Take a walk through the gigantic 1.5-km tunnel with side branch lines and air trunks, immersing yourself in the experience of soldiers in the Second World War.
Barvinok
Not far from Uzhhorod, surrounded by the Carpathians, thermal waters flow from below the surface of the Earth. Springs are rich in health giving properties and responsible for the high spirits of Zolota Hora’s (Golden Hill) visitors. You will find four modern thermal baths, indoor and outdoor, with water from 29C-39C. The water is rich in healing properties and compositionally similar to thermal waters in the best resorts in France, Germany and the Czech Republic.
Kosyno
Kosino Thermal Waters is a super modern, relaxing complex located in the oak grove. It offers 5 pools and 7 saunas, with an average water temperature of +40˚C. The complex contains the biggest jacuzzi fountains in Ukraine, representing coffee, wine, beer and palinka, as well as a 15.5m fountain, the Golden Tap of Health. The complex is suitable for both adults and children, and is full of health benefits.
Mukachevo
Here a solitary volcanic hill hosts the strongest fortress in Ukraine, Palanok Castle (XIV). It was built by prince Fedir Koriatovych, and fanned with heroic fame by princess Ilona Zrinyi, a Hungarian noblewoman, who, between 1685 and 1688, defended the castle against the Habsburg Empire. If time permits, you can pay a visit to many other interesting sights in Mukachevo: St. Martin chapel (XIV), the Rakotsis palace (1663) and the beautifully green city hall.
“Varyshska palachinta”
“Varyshska palachinta” is a fair and festival, waving farewell to winter and celebrating the coming of spring. At the festival participants make palachintas (thin pancakes) with different fillings and sauces. Visitors are also treated to wine, honey, cheese and dishes of local cuisine. This experience is topped off with folk music that ties together the embracing, community feel.
