A unique historical and cultural complex (VIIІ-ХІ centuries), the centre of the societarian Great White Croation community, consisting of rocks, caves, protheses and underground mazes. The fortified barracks of Stilsko hill fort spread over 250 hectares and is now considered the biggest of its kind. The presence of the Centers of Heathen and the Christian cult of the White Croats can be sighted in Mykolaiv, Stilsko, Dubrova and Ilov. The whole complex spreads out over 200 square kilometers, and Represents a peculiar chapter in Ukrainian cultural history that is incomparable to the rest of Europe at that time.
Cave complexes (VIII-XV ст.), hewn out of limestone and sand formations,lies on the outskirts of Mykolaiv at the foot of Lysa Chorna mountain. They belonged to Stilska – a metropolis of the time. Complexes served as a sanctuary for Heathen and Christian religions; meadows in front of tunnel-like rooms and niches for altars are indicative of that.
One of the most beautiful places in Opillia and likened by many to the legendary Hobbiton of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it is situated on the Kolodnytsia river, a few kilometers from the center of Stilsko hill fort. The gem of this place is giant stone Dyravets, or table stones, named due to a hole created in the rock that served as a practice of worship in the pre-Christian era. Cave rooms, once the homes of servers of the Heathen cult, are now used as a food storage, but offer insight into the living quarters of this historical cultural movement.
In the wide territory of Boykivske Pidhiria there is a private farm “Dobra korivka”. Foodies call cheese produced there “Mukko”. Say hello to more than one thousand goats and cows living on the farm, whose milk is used to produce excellent cheeses. Following Dutch recipes,these include cheese with whiskey, chilli and truffles. A milk processing plant is also situated near the farm. They use modern European equipment to process milk; that is why milk products keep natural value, microelements and natural taste. During the excursion you can watch the processes of making cheese, and get to try some too!
In this Carpathian village you will find a cave monastery (XIII-XIX centeries), a unique two-level cave complex. On the first level, housing and economic buildings were hewn out of stone rock; the second level hosted a monastic church. There you can admire excellent views of the incredibly beautiful Skole Beskids and the Stryi River.
